As the first facility in what will be Purdue University’s new Engineering and Polytechnic Gateway Complex, Dudley Hall and Lambertus Hall represent one of the largest complexes on campus. The 251,191-square-foot space will house interdisciplinary instructional space, design studios for senior and capstone projects, collaborative space supporting active learning, and administrative office space. Built for flexibility, the building will include massive lab spaces that can support to-scale learning experiences ranging from manufacturing production lines to home and commercial construction projects, and from powertrain technology development to human integration processes.

The Science Complex Renovation and Expansion project at Butler University is all about connections. At the most literal level, the project connects two 70s-era buildings – Gallahue Hall and Holcomb Building – without erasing their distinctive international style. But it also calls for gathering dispersed departments and programs under one roof, marrying historically significant science programs with modern lab and classroom facilities, and creating spaces where students and faculty can collaborate both formally and informally.

Reimagine Pleasant Street is a multi-year, three-phased initiative to improve east-west connectivity, accessibility, and safety through Noblesville. The Pleasant Street corridor will construct a new east-west corridor connecting SR 37 to SR 32.

Phase 1 will break ground by the end of 2022. This phase will construct new alignment from River Road to 8th Street, including building a new bridge over the White River and improve the existing Pleasant Street from 8th Street to 11th Street.
Phase 2 will improve the existing Pleasant Street from 11th Street to SR 37. Phase 3 will extend Pleasant Street from River Road to SR 32 at the Hague Road intersection. Roundabouts will be built at SR 32, River Road, 10th Street, and two at 8th Street. Upon corridor completion, the city expects a 24 percent reduction in traffic congestion along SR 32 in downtown Noblesville.

After working with Greencastle Community School Corporation on a comprehensive facilities study, krM Architecture has been moving forward with the school system on the design work for various improvements across all six facilities. The $32 million dollar bond will touch all school buildings in the corporation, most notably, the high school.
Improvements at the high school will include a new expansion which acts as a connector between the main GHS building and McAnally Center, the school’s dedicated athletic center. The design will add modern flexible space as well as new gym space to support both existing buildings. Additional improvements will focus on upgrades to the science department, media center, locker rooms and core classroom areas to position Greencastle schools at the forefront of education.
The first major round of upgrades is set to bid in early in early December. This work will include the high school labs, media center, connector, off-site baseball and softball fields, and McAnally locker, weight and wrestling rooms. Work on these projects, which promise to be the most extensive of the upgrades, will continue between the second half of 2022 and mid-2023. Work at the middle school and elementary schools, as well as on the high school parking lot, should commence in the spring of 2022.

New elementary school for Pre-K through 6th grade with special classroom and collaboration spaces and all new sitework will be included in this project. The building’s exterior design references the original historic elementary school which burned down, along with material palette references to the historic downtown Pine Village. Interior design features include wood glulam structure and wall treatments and historic image supergraphics. A two-story space at the hub of the school includes a learning riser leading to the second-floor classrooms.
Greenfield Central High School New Auditorium

New 1,400-seat high school auditorium with an orchestra pit, balcony seating, and a full fly-loft. Support spaces include all backstage support areas (workshop, greenroom, offices), and lots of storage. A new two-story entry canopy and lobby connects the high school gym, natatorium, and academic spaces.
Exterior design elements will complement the current high school material palette while also introducing a dynamic new two-story curtainwall façade. Interior design features include wood finishes and color-tunable LED feature lighting, as well as balcony caliper seating that extends from the second floor down to stage level at the sides of the theater. High school natatorium seating is also expanded in the project.

The MSD of Washington Township brought Schmidt Associates in to develop additions and renovations at two existing middle schools—enabling grade level configurations within individual pods. Each pod has standard core classrooms, as well as a teacher Think Tank, small group space, and a large group instruction (LGI) space. Additionally, new media centers with maker spaces and digital recording/broadcast spaces provide more opportunities for technology to be integrated into the curriculum. Each building, Westlane Middle and Eastwood Middle, also received new cafetoriums with a platform for performances; life safety updates; mechanical, electrical, and plumbing updates; and improved technology access. New student and public entries with secure access to the administrative offices have also enhanced safety and security.

With community input, the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township developed a Blue-Ribbon Facilities Plan and goals of keeping buildings updated and secure while creating spaces mindful of physical and mental well-being. As part of the plan, the district has invested over $174 million in capital improvement projects since 2015. The latest of these projects is a state-of-the-art, seamless and integrated transportation facility that was designed by Schmidt Associates. In addition to creating a sense of security and well-being by establishing clear and separated student, parent, bus and visitor traffic circulation, parking and entry points, the facility was purposely designed for 24/7 usage with the zoning of activities for in and outside of the building.
